Painting Studio Tuxedo Twilight
As a fine arts painter my job is to make paintings. I am not in the art business. That is another can of worms I have left on the shelf unopened. Fortunatly I have never had to rely on the sale of my work for sustinance. Have had a hand in food and beverage service all my life.My grandfather left home at thirteen and cooked in the oil fields, and ranches out west. Then had some places of his own. I learned to crawl and walk on a bar room floor. Was ever hanging about the kitchens or in the front of the house.No wonder that most of my adult life has been spent tending bar, managing clubs, restaurants, and as Maitre d’ in the Chicago area. The income afforded me the opportunity to persue my artistic endevours without sacrificing my art. Selling out of the dream has never been an option. The works and words speak. Now I am in Peoria because of a woman that left me five years after the move here. That is another story for another time.Now when I leave the studio and go to work five or six nights a week it is in one of my Tuxedos. I am Maitre d’ at the finest dinning room in Peoria, Il. There I meet, greet. seat. and schmooze the guests. Lots of handshakes, hugs, gentle kisses, pats on backs, smiles, warm welcomes, and welcome back. I carve the prime rib table side and when time allows perform some table side cooking. It is a stage and I love it because I love the people in all the diverse and varried forms. Making the fine dinning experience complete requires the hand of an artist overseeing the waitstaff and communicating with the chef as well as the clientel. The fine food, white linen, richly appointed and elegent setting all add to the experience as does the harpest from six until eight each evening and the piano bar from eight till close. The harpist knows that I like Pink Floyd and often out of nowhere I will hear Wish You Were Here or Shine On You Crazy Diamond waifting off her strings. I like my job.Enough of this stuff for one night. Just thought some of you would like to know about the Tuxedo Twilight and a bit more of me.As ever, Be well.Stephen Craig Rowe

What a lovely peek inside the colored windows of your life, Stephen. I am sure you work hard at what you do but loving what it IS you do makes it a ‘party’ every night, and you are the host! I have done some similar work in my past and even though the establishment was not at the top of the dinning scale I did learn that treating the dinning guest made life much nicer while sweating over the food preparations. It made me happy to be requested by many of our regular guests.Did your Flam – be? Did your ribs roast? Did the Holland-daze? hallo StephenThank you for visiting my space:)Interesting contemplation…all what happens with us makes us as we are…this is according your memories……….according creation and sale…it is a risky thing…I think you make vise decision …cause when you started create for living (here i mean for existence in material way) there will be possibility that one day you realize that the joy of creation turns in routine and necessity…when joy becomes duty it is not joy any more (to these conclusions I came through my personal experience..I don’t know …personalities are different so the ways how they detect things are different too…this is how i see these things)…I wish you…be as you are and create for joy and don’t exchange this joy of creation for nothing cause nothing can compares with this joy……….according "Pink Floyd"….I discovered for myself their music when I was 14 I find it very inspirational…that was almost 25 years ago…many things and outlooks changed since that time but this is one of few things what still I consider as valuable…Have nice weekend!AnitaP.S. Truely an artist on many levels- even an actor! They must really love you there… a murmer of a giggle passed my lips about the harpist. That happens to be one of my favorite instruments, that and the steele guitar. I imagined you as a toddler pulling yourself up from the wood floor at the bar & then looked at your pic of today and I waxed sentimental at your life condenced into a couple of paragraphs… peace to you S.C.R.

Morning, I read your blog and I worry at times about you. I hope this gin sipping brings much laughter. I am trying to figure out something I am wanting to write about and am brainstorming on how I can write it due to its sensitivity. My partner’s grandmother passed away yesterday. She is having a very hard time. I told her that she truly was blessed within the fact that she had her grandparents for so very long. My grandparents passed away when I had just turned 20. My partner is 34. Yet, I know that truly is no comfort to her right now. Therefore, I am trying as I did say to find words that will have much meaning to my partner and her family. I myself have also never lived souly by the amount I bring in off my art. I once held the position of assistant matre’d and was very good at it myself. I agree it takes an artistic eye to handle guests, because as artists we observe, see and understand the nuance associated with life. Weather the guest is a one time customer – an special anniversary to the beginning of a marriage — to the long time guest whom expects service a certain way — we observe, see and understand.Thanks for sharing.. as always intrigued by your posts.. be well.
